Improving Reading in the Primary Grades

This journal by Nell Duke and Meghan Block first examines whether specific key recommendations from the report have been implemented in U.S. classrooms. They find that recommendations regarding increased access to kindergarten and greater attention to and improvement of students’ word-reading skills have been widely adopted. Others have not. Vocabulary and comprehension, long neglected in the primary grades, still appear to be neglected. Contrary to the report’s recommendations, attention to building conceptual and content knowledge in science and social studies has actually decreased in the past fifteen years. In other words, the easier-to-master skills are being attended to, but the broader domains of accomplishment that constitute preparation for comprehension and learning in the later grade vocabulary knowledge, comprehension strategy use, and conceptual and content knowledge are being neglected. Overall this journal really interesting to me because it has many experts that I like and relatable with the situation in Indonesia.

Making Culture Happen in the English Language Classroom

         The purpose of this study was to investigate the attitudes of students towards using culture-based tasks, activities and the impact of these in foreign language teaching and learning performance. The results of the study confirm the idea that the usage of culture in foreign language teaching or teaching of a foreign language through culture facilitates and empowers language education and acquisition. The overall results indicate the usefulness of culture matters for the language learning groups as one of the leading ways of teaching a foreign language. In order to incorporate culture successfully in the foreign language classroom, teachers should be aware of diverse individual characteristics of the participants. Furthermore, teachers should keep in mind that cultural activities should be changed as some time passes and be organized accordingly to required situations.

During the study, it has been observed that culture-based exercises stimulate and improve students’ interaction skills and make them use the target language more efficiently. The results indicate the general interest of the students toward target culture and its comparison with the local culture which adds some more arguments to the debates concerning culturally-oriented classroom for benefit of proponents of the culture in the FLT.

Improving the effectiveness of large class

teaching in law degrees

The aim of this journal project was to consider effective methods of teaching the skills of analysis, synthesis, critique and evaluation in large classes to law students.

            Teacher used to compare this effectiveness of large class with small class and begun with 90% student said that small call is more effective and more understandable because they think that large group makes a lot of noise and make them hard to understand each subject that teacher gave.

            Even though the result of this study was not effective and make them confuse they still enjoy it, the writer can say it enjoys when in class has a lot of student but still not understandable and that’s why I think the small class is more effective and should be applied in every class.

Through Musical Communication to Development of Competence in Culture Awareness and Expression

In the process of musical communication through contemporary musical language, the aforementioned advantages functioned as motivational reinforcements on the development of competence in cultural awareness and expression. This research also points out numerous opportunities and challenges for future solutions necessary to improve the implementation of learning and teaching with and through arts into practice.

The conclusion for this journal is developing competence through musical communication can be very fun and can make them aware and give more attention because they have foreign teacher that seems cool to them.

Improving Reading Fluency and Comprehension Among Elementary Students:

The content of this journal really confusing for me because it’s like experimental research and classroom action research combine, even though the content make me headache but the results of this study are good enough and worth to try because it’s contribute to the literature by providing evidence for the effectiveness of a remedial reading program in improving both reading fluency and comprehension in elementary school students. These findings support the importance of programs for males and females in fourth, fifth and sixth grade provided to assist students academically. And maybe in the future I can use this method to improve my students reading fluency and comprehension.

Nonverbal Teacher-student Communication in the Foreign Language Classroom

This journal is about teaching Chinese as a foreign language. And nonverbal communication plays a very important role in this journal, in certain circumstances, non-verbal communication can achieve the goal that even verbal communication can’t, application of nonverbal communication in teaching Chinese as a foreign language must be considered, different forms of nonverbal communicative behavior play a very important role on the teaching Chinese as a foreign language. The students' attention is easily attracted by the use of body language, and the body language can also help them deepen their impression and imagination. Appropriate body language can reflect the teachers' temperament and demeanor to strengthen their personal glamour. Through this way, the students' ability of English will be certainly and greatly improved. However, the teachers' body language often exists during the oral language. We need use the body language accurately during the class, or it will cause a bad influence on the English teaching course.

This journal might be the finest thing to do in class, because incorporating feedback in writing is an effective approach in writing lesson as it can foster the students’ motivation, And improve their language proficiency as well as promote their great achievement in writing performance. The teacher need to offer the suggestive feedback and identify the potential areas in writing in order to ensure that the students can develop their skills and gain the beneficial experience to become better writers. Because in my own experience it can make student or participant understand more and they ‘ll remembered it because of the will of the feedback that teacher gave.
